Go to the party

Go to the party. Have fun with friends and family. Watch the fireworks. Eat the BBQ. Celebrate America’s independence, and remember what that means. And bring something non-alcoholic.

You don’t have to feel like you’re missing out because you don’t have to miss out. I acknowledge that we are all at different stages in our sobriety, so if sitting this one out IS what’s best for you, by all means, take a seat. I respect your decision and support you 100%. I say “no” more than “yes” myself these days. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Today I’m saying “yes” (twice!) and can’t wait to go to the store and arm myself with AF bevs. The options are endless!

When I was drinking I felt alone, isolated. No one knew my struggles. Life was passing me by. I missed a lot and have too many regrets. I’m done with that self. I refuse to let alcohol dictate and define my life any longer. It will never again be the reason I miss anything else this beautiful world has to offer, not a thing. I’m taking my life back. For the first time in a long time, I’m living.

You don’t have to watch the rest of the world from the sidelines because alcohol is no longer a part of your life—or anything else, for that matter. Because now there is room for so much more.

Whatever you choose do today, have fun. Make memories. Feed your soul. Here’s to living a full life AND having a hangover-free tomorrow.
